Council meeting 07/28/2011

Would like to thank community members who came out and participated in todays Guadalupe Council Meeting.

Today’s meeting scratched the surface on billboards, construction on Guadalupe road, party permits and the conference of the league of cities and towns.

My concern today was manly on the party permit and the action to raising the $50 fee to $100; concerns have been made by other officals about the violence, not honoring the time limits, and occupancy.  As your council member I felt that Security Companies and Sheriff Department hold some responsibility with what occurs pertaining to parties and permit rules.  My proposal was to fine security companies and hold MCSO accountable in upholding town laws/contracts and also NOT penalize the community for a few bad parties but work with members of the community who have issues maintaing order at their events.  This discussion was tabled, town officials will be working on drafting other options and the communities input would be appreciated.

Again thanks for your support and please continue to come to the council meetings and be active in your community.

Independent Redistricting Commission's meeting June 24, 2011

Today per Request I attended an Independent Redistricting Commission (IRC) meeting and would like to inform the community on today’s meeting.

Today along with other members of the Arizona community observed the process of Interviewing for a Mapping Consultants, this was very informative about the redistricting process, after members of the public where given time to speak.  I was given time to introduce the town and our unique community.  In addition noted to the Commission of Guadalupe’s interest to actively participating with the redistricting process and also reiterated the Mayors plan starting a committee in Guadalupe to involve community members.
Please note that any members of the community can be involved and all information can be found at http://www.azredistricting.org/default.asp

Council meeting 06/23/2011

Would like to thank community members who came out and participated in todays Guadalupe Council Meeting.

Today we heard some good testimony about Maricopa County Sheriff Department and support to establish a Guadalupe Police Department.

My support to establish a Guadalupe Police Department will continue, with the continued support for community members to share their testimony will help every step of the way.  I encourage all community members in Guadalupe to show their opinion about a police force in Guadalupe.  Please come out and share your opinions to help the council better make a decision to form a committee and explore the idea.

Again thanks for your support and please continue to come to the council meetings and be active in your community.

My name is Andrew Sanchez

Dear Guadalupe Voter,

I would like to introduce myself.  My name is Andrew Sanchez, son of Cruz Sanchez with two sisters (Elaine & Delia Sanchez).   I’m the grandson of Salustion Sanchez and Francisca Sanchez.

Some of my involvement with Guadalupe has been a member of the Guadalupe Youth Build and Guadalupe Americorps soon after obtaining employment with the Youth Young Adult Program.  Other employment has been for the State of Arizona with the Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections and Arizona Community Protection and Treatment Center. Most recently I have actively participated in the Citizens Public Safety Committee, Citizens Camera Crew and Arizona Centers for Empowerment (LUCHA).

With your support as your town council member, I would like to address the following:

Education: With Guadalupe having so many youth under the age of 18 and of school age I believe the town should have much more involvement with our youth and encourage youth to get their high school diploma/GED and move to higher education in a college or university.  With your support, as a council member, my attempt would be to connect all of the town resources so every youth can succeed in school.  One vision has been for the Town of Guadalupe to have its own schools such as a High School so youth can have more pride in their town.

Housing: Housing has always been an issue in the town and being land lock makes it much harder for growing families to be accommodated.  As your city official we should address the issues and work closely with our partners in building homes where properties are available and encouraging/assisting resident with housing.  As your council member the vision continues to expand services and hope that all families in Guadalupe have their aspirations and needs met.

Public Protection:  With our town currently paying over one million dollars or 1/3 of Guadalupe’s budget to the Maricopa Sheriff Department and having no say in how these services are accomplished, my goal as your council member would be to work closely with our town officials to improve our police protection.

Government:  Many residents as well as I sometimes feel discouraged in involving with town politics but as your council member, I would love to improve the way town official communicate to town resident about things that affect us all and have more government transparency and be a role model for neighboring cities.

Youth:  The town is in a very good position to have many youth programs and have our youth involved in all sorts of educational experiences and with your vote I would work hard with all resources to move more programs in the Town of Guadalupe.  Please share your ideas. This could be one of our strongest town accomplishments.

Community Events:  With the current economic issues affecting all resident in Guadalupe, Arizona and  overall United States,  we as town officials and resident, should not be discouraged.  With your vote I would love to work with more community members to achieve the goal of hosting more events that would bring much needed revenue to the town of Guadalupe.

Thanks for your time

Andrew Sanchez
